The Dance Center was founded in 1974 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, by Donna L. Muzio. Ms. Muzio also founded the Brandywine Ballet Company, for which The Dance Center serves as the official school. The main objective and mission of the school is to provide professional training to serious students pursuing a career in dance. However, the entire faculty at The Dance Center is committed to providing individual attention to achievement and progress to each and every student, whether he or she is planning a professional career in dance or dancing for pure enjoyment and good exercise. The ballet schedule is consistent, well-organized, and based on the Vaganova (Russian) Method of Ballet, which the entire faculty follows. As a result, the school trains in one style of classical dance, giving the students a continuity from Level 1 right through Level 6, which prepares them for the pre-professional division of the school at age 12. The Dance Center also has an excellent program for Contemporary Dance that includes Modern, Lyrical, Jazz, and Hip Hop. The concept of training students correctly and consistently with one proven method has been the crux of the superior dancers The Dance Center has produced. Consistency in early training is essential to growth, improvement, and enjoyment in ballet.
